Corbin: Budget Avoids Repeat of Last Year’s Impasse
HARRISBURG – The House today formally wrapped up the 2016-17 budget process, approving a revenue package to fund the budget plan passed on June 30.  The bill has passed the Senate and heads to the governor’s desk for his signature.  After passage, Rep. Becky Corbin (R-Chester) issued the following statement:

“We have successfully avoided a repeat of last year’s lengthy budget impasse, ensuring that school districts and health and human services will not see funding disruptions.  This budget is a win for taxpayers and was balanced without the large-scale income and sales tax increases originally sought by the governor.

“Additionally, school districts in Chester County will see increases significant increases in funding for classroom instruction.”
Corbin also noted that the budget would allocate…

•    $15 million to combat heroin and opioid addiction, including funds for emergency
addiction treatment and behavioral health services.

•    $5.3 million for West Nile Virus and Zika Virus control, an increase of almost 37 pecent.

•    Funding that was eliminated by the governor for a number of important health programs, such as Regional Cancer Institutes ($600,000); Lupus ($100,000); Trauma Prevention ($460,000); Epilepsy Support Services ($550,000); Bio-Technology Research ($669 million); Tourette Syndrome ($150,000); and ALS Support Services ($500,000).
